Update on Alayna

Alayna’s next doctor appointment isn’t until next month so I don’t have any official stats or anything but I can tell you our girl is growing up so much. She is 14 months old now. She officially on whole milk and has been since shortly after her first birthday. We were very excited to see that her milk allergy disappeared and she has no problems with dairy at all. She is also completely off the bottle. I made a post in early April about weaning her from her bottle and got a lot of great feedback from experienced moms. But, we found the best thing for us was cold turkey. We tried to do a bottle just at bedtime but that made Alayna whine and throw fits for her bottle every other time too. We found out that she no longer took a bottle at daycare at all. She drank out of a cup at all snacks and meals like the other “big kdis” in her classroom, so we decided that it is time for a full switch. It took about 3 days for her to accept the cup and not whine and point to the cupboard where we kept her bottles but she quickly made the transition.
Alayna has had some bad illnesses in the past few months. I alluded a bit to a previous blog about her bad cold at the end of March. She had a fever, cough, runny nose, the works for almost a solid week. It was just a typical spring virus but it seemed to have a tough hold on her. But, she got over that and we had a nice long 4 week stretch of no colds/illnesses. Until last week at least. About a week and a half ago Alayna ran a low grade fever for about 3 days. She didn’t have any other symptoms so we chalked it up to teething or something minor. Her fever broke on Saturday and we thought that was the end of it, until Sunday morning when she woke up with a rash all over her neck and chest. It was pretty faint and didn’t seem to bother her so I thought it was just heat rash from the fever breaking. Well by night it has spread to her back and was a little brighter the next morning. A call into the doctor revealed that she has Roseola. It is a virus that consists of everything Alayna had, fever for a few days, followed by rash. It is contagious until the rash goes away but other than that, it isn’t very serious. She now has a clean bill of health.

Physically Alayna is growing up so much, she LOVES to play outside. She likes when Derek plays soccer and catch with her big rubber ball and she loves to climb up her swing set and slide down the slide. She favorite game, indoors or out is peek-a-boo and she thinks she is the funniest person in the world when she is “hiding” from you.

Our little peanut is growing but still on the skinny side. She is probably around 18lbs now, but still not to the 20lbs to turn her car seat forward, so she is still rear-facing and will be at least another month or two. All I can say is that I want her metabolism. She loves to eat and will eat pretty much anything, she is not picky, but she is not one to sit still either. She has to constantly be on the move, playing, running or just walking laps around our living room/dining room. I am nervous about our upcoming plane ride, she is not going to want to sit still for 2 ½ hours on a plane.

Alayna’s vocabulary is also growing. In addition to mama, dada, and doggie that she has been saying for months now, she now also says “uh oh, “milk,” and “bye-bye” She also says “baby” but it sounds like bye-bye so we aren’t sure what she is saying sometimes. J
We have a busy few weeks and summer ahead of us and I am looking forward to it. It will be fun to do more things this summer now that she is bigger and enjoys doing more. She loves baths, so I am excited to get her to the pool to swim. We are going to start looking for swim lessons for her. Here are some recent pictures from the past few months….
