4th of July

Fourth of July weekend was a pretty low-key one this year, which was fine by me. On the 4th, we again went to the Arlington parade. This is a really nice community parade, they include all the Arlington High School bands, cheerleader s and dance teams, many community companies, organizations and programs. The only thing it is missing, and I don’t think many, if any parades, still do this, but the don’t throw candy!! I remember as a kid that was the best part, dashing into the street going for the best candy. I realize now, this is probably unsafe, especially with horses and other animals in the parade, but still it was the best.

Anyway….the parade had one big difference between this year and last…the weather. It was HOT this this year. By the 9:30am start it was already in the 90’s and the sun was beating down pretty hard on us. So, it made for a little uncomfortable sitting, but it was still enjoyable. We sat through most of the parade, and Alayna seemed to really enjoy it. She especially liked the bands, so she could dance and the horses (though she called them doggies). Towards the end of the parade she was antsy and tired of sitting so we walked back towards our car and were able to see the rest of the parade as it came through the starting point.

After the parade we all needed naps so we rested for a bit and then headed out to the O’Keefe’s house for their annual 4th of July party. They again had a great spread of food and lawn games. They also have a 4 ft deep larger pool that they set up, which was really nice. Alayna LOVES to swim so we got her in her suit and put her in her float and she was happy the rest of the day. It was an enjoyable day. It had been a tiring day and we had work the next day so unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any fireworks this year.
