Week 2 has been a little tough this week. On Monday I had Alayna at the doctor because we found blood in her poop. The doctor told us that Alayna has a milk allergy. This means we have to switch to a soy formula and if I continue to pump I have to cut all dairy out of my diet. After reading about this, I was somewhat surprised. Supposedly this allergy isn't as common as people think, however, after talking to many friends and receiving comments on facebook it seems many people's babies have milk allergies. Who knows, but we have been trying to do everything the doctor has said.
Unfortunately, it hasn't been working very well. We thought it was getting better. Alayna started having poops with no blood in them but it was still occuring about half the time. Then this morning, she had a bad one. So, we are waiting to hear from the doctor on what to do next. I have stopped pumping all together and she is solely on formula now. I was only getting 5-6 oz of breast milk a day and had a very hard time cutting out all the dairy from my diet, so I decided to call it quits. I felt pretty guilty at first, but this is all a trial and error thing for us and I found that I hated pumping to begin with and to only get a few ounces every time just seemed not worth it to me.
We may have to switch Alayna to yet another different formula and hope that works. I just feel terrible. She seems to be doing fine, really only cries or is crabby when she is hungry, wet or sleepy so she acts like nothing is wrong, but obviously her tummy is having some issues. I feel pretty helpless right now.
Poor Alayna also has a very bad diaper rash going on. Her little bottom is so red. We have stopped using the wipes we were using and started lathering on the desitin in hopes that helps. Like I said it has been a rough week. Thankfully my parents are here. If it wasn't for my mom helping me and offering advice I think I would be more of a mess than I am already. I just want my little girl to be feeling well and not in any pain.
I will post a longer post about all the fun things we have done with my parents this week and some pictures that my dad has taken.
If anyone has any advice or support please pass it along because I am feeling quite helpless right now. :-(

Alayna is absolutely beautiful. Hang in there, you are doing a great job. Congratulations to both of you. Lee and I are looking forward to meeting Alayna someday. BTW: Great pictures, Jenn sent us the link for your ShutterFly.
