I have hit the 34 week mark this past Saturday. I now have 6 weeks (actually a little less) till my due date. Time is flying by, but for the most part I think we are ready. Or as ready as we will ever be. I had my 34 week check up yesterday. I was dreading stepping on the scale after the indulgence of sweets over the weekend between my Texas baby shower and the leftovers after. However, I only gained 3 lbs...not bad. The nurse was pleased and reminded me that most of it was the baby now. Blood pressure is still great and we talked about some ways to maybe help my back and hip pain. I am having a terrible time sleeping these days. I get comfortable on one side and get woken up by the painful stabs in my hips, only to roll over and repeat the process a few hours later. Thankfully, my bladder is holding up for me and I am not getting up too much during the night to go, so I am still getting some sleep. Linda, my nurse practioner came in and we talked about my next appt. which will be at 36 weeks. I will be tested for Group B Strep and be checked for any dialation at that time. We then listened to Baby's heartbeat and she felt for the positioning. Baby is still head down and will most likely stay that way now and by pushing and prodding, she estimated he/she weighs about 5-51/2 pounds. I was pretty surprised by this, thinking I have 6 weeks left and that they baby may end up huge. However, it is just an estimate, really a guess, so who knows. I just don't know how much room is left for Baby to grow since he/she is lodged constantly in my ribs these days. Sitting in a chair or riding in a car for longer than 15 min. is becoming quite uncomfortable.
Baby is still doing some gymnastics in there but not quite as much since there is less room for movement. He/she has also had the hiccups lately. Probably about once a day or every other day. I wasn't sure what it was at first but then the rhythmic beat led me to believe that is what it was.
So, what has been going on since week 32...
This past weekend my friends Brenda and Tennelle threw me a great baby shower. They themed it a jungle theme to go along with our nursery theme. It was so cute, everything was so bright and cheerful. Brenda made balloon animals and Tennelle's mom is an amazing confectioner, she made these beautiful chocolate suckers in the shapes of giraffes, elephants, lions they were amazing. Many of my wonderful new friends came to help celebrate and give me GREAT mommy advice, since I am so clueless. Baby got a lot of necessities and cute outfits. But, the best part was that my mom flew in to surprise me. She called Derek a few weeks back asking him if it would be okay to have a visitor for the weekend since flights were cheap and she had the time to fly in. He made up some bogus story about going to the hardware store Saturday morning and went to the airport to pick her up and take her Tennelle's. When I walked into Tennelle's house there she was. It was awesome.
Sunday afternoon, she went shopping with Derek and I to help us get some of the last minute things we hadn't picked up yet and we spent the rest of the day hanging out, getting things organized and just spending time together. She had to head back home Monday morning, but she and my dad will be back very soon to meet Baby Eoff.
Other than the shower, it is pretty much status quo. Derek is busy bowling, playing softball and working and I am working still and getting things ready as much as possible. The baby's room is pretty much all done now, all it needs is a baby in it. We still have to get the car seat set up and figure out how to use the stroller but we have a few weeks for that yet. Baby knows he/she can't make an entrance till after next week. Derek will be in Reno, NV for the week bowling a tournament so I will be home alone.
That is all for now. Time to take a walk since this baby is killing my rib cage. :-)
