Harley's 105th

This past weekend Milwaukee was invaded by the rumbling and roar of tens of thousands of Harleys and Harley riders. This is yet another event that makes Milwaukee great. We had people pilgrimage from all over the world just to visit our city, home of the HOG. People saw what a great city Milwaukee is and how much it has to offer. Unfortunately I do have to hop on my soap box and rant just a bit about, not this event, but motorcyclists and motorcyles in general.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love riding on the back of a motorcycle, the feeling of freedom it lends to and the comraderie of motorcyclists all over the country. What bothers me though, is the constant griping by motorcyclists that we (us car drivers) are not sharing the road and are somehow out to get them. I agree sometimes people can be very rude about motorcyclists on the road. But, first and foremost I think that motorcyclists should take a look in the mirror. They complain that these accidents are at fault of the car drivers, but in the past weekend I lost track of the number of times I have seen motorcyclists cut off cars and weave in and out of traffic because they can squeeze through on their two wheels. How is that safe driving? Also, what about helmets. I guess they would rather blame us car drivers about their accident than realizing that they could have prevented that injury or death by strapping a helmet on their head. Also, those exhaust pipes on the bike are exposed and are hot. Why would they risk a burn to their legs by wearing shorts and sandals while driving? Also, last time I checked a stop sign meant every car had to stop and at four-way stops you had to take turns going through the intersection. Since when is it legal for 10 cycles to equal one car?
I am very much looking foward to the fun and excitment that will come with the 110th anniversary party. But, I would like to see a little more safety responsibility taken by the cylce drivers instead of them blaming cars for all their accidents and gripes on the road.
