Can you smell it? That distinct coolness has entered our mornings marking one and only one thing. That football season is right around the corner. Now I know that the Brewers are kicking some tail right now and demand our attention, but I can't help that when the air has that crispness to it that my thoughts abandon the Boys of Summer for the Gridiron Warriors.
I love football season. I love everything about the sport from the packed stadiums to the painted faces on the fans to the fresh white yard markers across the field. I love going to games in person, the pagentry and spirit as people cram themselves into to small of an area and discuss how the new receievers will fare this year against the tough secondary of the opposing teams. But, watching a game at home can be just as rewarding. You get insight from the play by play announcers that you might not have known. You can scream at the top of your lungs at the TV when something goes wrong and you don't get nasty looks from the fans around you for using less than church-like language.
How can you not love reading up on the team, finding out who won their spot to start, who made it back from injury to play and sadly who might miss a few games or a whole year. I relish the day my media guide comes in the mail so I can start learning the names and numbers of the players and be able to call them by name all year.
There is nothing better than the sound of the crowd cheering as a big play is made and all the red faced fans dream of a New Year in Pasedena. I tell you, nothing is sweeter. Are you ready for some football? I know I am and Saturday I will be in Camp Randall, cheering on the Badgers with all the face painted fans young and old and cheering my team on and dreaming of Pasenda on New Years Day.
