"Paradise" - Lincoln, NE

This past weekend Derek and I made our annual trip to Lincoln, NE to visit his college buddies, coaches and spend some time in his old stomping grounds.

After an 8 hour drive that got us into Lincoln around midnight we were ready to crash. But, we wanted to catch up with Rob (Derek's friend that we stayed with) and his new girlfriend Tina. We sat and talked for awhile before driving lag set in and we went to sleep.

On Friday we had lunch with Derek's friend Kyle. Kyle is currently working on opening his own chiropractor practice. He and his new wife just moved back to Lincoln a few weeks ago and he found a place for his pratice is working on getting everything set up. He was kind enough to take a look at Derek and I and do some adjusting that helped Derek a lot. Me...my body is beyond repair from the years of gymnastics and cheerleading. I got some temporary relief at least. After lunch we headed to campus to buy some more Nebraska stuff for the house and of course new clothes. We then headed to the Union to watch bowling practice and visit with the coaches. Friday night we went to dinner with a group of people to a VERY good hibachi restaurant then went out for a few drinks. An old friend from my college days, Kevin, met us. He is now living in Lincoln with his wife. It was really nice to see him and catch up.

Saturday we were up and ready to head to the tailgate lot by noon. The game wasn't until 7pm but these people know how to tailgate. They have HUGE set ups with grills, food, full bars and statelite TV so we don't miss any of the early days action. We found a TV with the Badger game and watched the piss poor execution that led to the Badger loss. Which I am still bitter about.

Unfortunately, the Husker game didn't go much better. The atmosphere is amazing. I am a Badger till death, but I will tell you, fans in Nebraska are die-hards. They get to the stadium at least a half hour before game time and have some spectacular pre-game rituals. Husker Power is one that you just can't pass up...gives me goose bumps every time.

Sunday, we awoke early and made the 8 hour trek home. The only thing that made the time go back quickly was listening to the Brewer game and all the post-game celebration when they won the wild card.

It was a great weekend and one we are not sure we will be able to do again next year because of the move. So, we are glad that we could get in one last trip. Thanks goes out to Rob and Tina for letting us crash at their place and Kevin for the tickets to the game.
