JDRF Strike Out Diabetes Event

I was once again part of the planning committee for the Strike Out Diabetes event for JDRF. My friend Lynda has a 9 year old son that was diagnosed three years ago with Type 1 diabetes. He has to have an insulin pump on him at all times and check his blood sugar levels many times a day to make sure he is within the correct range. After Troy was diagnosed, Lynda went about learning everything she could and getting involved with JDRF so she could do all she can to help her son.

Lynda had the great idea to do what she knows best, bowling...involve bowling into a fundraiser to support research for JDRF. At that point Strike Out Diabetes was born. Last year was the first event and we exceeded all goals by raising over $30,000. This year, Lynda set the bar even higher.

We spent the last 4 months planning the event, organizing registration, bowling, silent auctions and prizes. The event was held on June 4th at Lewisville Lanes in Lewisville, TX. All 32 lanes were sponsored at $300 a lane and each bowler was asked to raise a minimum of $100 dollars towards the cause. We had silent auction items that included signed Dallas Mavericks memorabilia, bowling memorabilia, wine packages and much more.

The event went extremely smooth and we again learned some things to do better for next year’s events. It was such a fantastic day and we raised over $50,000 this year. We were thrilled. For more information on the event and to donate to JDRF you can visit strikoutdiabetes.org. Help raise money for a good cause.
