Week 24 - on the down slope

4 more weeks have gone by. It is hard to imagine I have been pregnant for 6 months already, it has flown by. I am also starting to get to the point of okay, this has been enjoyable but I am ready for the baby to arrive. Still lots to do though, so I guess I can wait a little bit longer.

I had my 24 week check up on Monday. Still pretty quick, measurements, weight, heartbeat, questions and I am out. All is well, strong heartbeat and growth is on track. My weight gain has been good but I feel like I am packing on the pounds. I swear I look at food and gain two pounds. I just keep reminding myself that it is for a good reason and that baby inside me needs this.

The baby has been kicking up a storm lately. He/she is very active mid-morning between 9-11am, which actually is right now and I am getting kicked. ha ha. It doesn't get old though, I love to feel him/her and know that all is well in there.

Health issues for me in the past month have been an increase of heartburn and TERRIBLE sciatica. The heartburn I can handle, pop a few tums and I am good to go. But, my back is killing me. I have always had back problems from those wonderful gymnastics and cheerleading days so I knew coming in that I was going to have issues, but dear God. Some days I feel like my legs are going to crumple underneath me. I am trying to keep active, and stretch a lot to keep the pain at bay but in one word it SUCKS.

Derek finished painting the nursery this past weekend. When I get back from WI I will start to wash the bedding and get the furniture set up. Still lots to do and decorate in the nursery so thankfully I do have time left.

Like I said in my last blog, Derek and I were headed to some football games the last weekend in October. We had a very good time. We went down to Waco, TX for the Baylor/Nebraska game. The stadium is nice, but in the middle of nowhere. It was 5 miles up the highway from the university and not in the nicest neighborhood. However, parking was cheap and abundant and if we would have known we would have brought the grill and did some tailgating, it is prime for that. Over half the stadium was NU fans and the game was a good one so it was all in all a good time. On that Sunday we headed to the new Cowboys stadium for the Cowboys/Seahawks game. That stadium is unreal. It is very impressive but I hate the Cowboys and most of their fans so with the Seahawk loss it was not quite as enjoyable. Though it was cool to say I've been to a game there.

I have finally hung up my softball cleats. Our last game of this past session was Nov. 16 for the championship. We didn't win, so I was a bit disappointed leaving on a low note but it was getting very difficult for me to run around and being 6 months along I figured it was time to rest. So, I will make my return probably in May. I am still bowling though. A couple weekends ago we bowl the Mixed State tournament with our friends Jason and Tennelle. We had a great time bowling with them and will maybe get some money back but if not who cares it was a good time. My bowling has been sucking for at least a year now so I didn't have any expectations of myself and I did pretty well endurance wise with 6 games the second day but I was sore the next day. 3 games a week at league is pretty much all I can do now. But, I will continue to bowl probably until the new year when our league is over.

We also made a trip up to Ikea a few weeks ago for some nursery estentials. We needed a dresser for the baby and they are known for decent furniture at a reasonable price. So, we drove the hour trip to Frisco and got our dresser. We also ended up with a bookcase, in preparations for all those great books I will get in WI. We didn't intend to buy anything else but Derek has been wanting a sectional sofa for the living since we moved to TX and had the room for it. I didn't think it was really a "need" at this point but he convinced me, with a promise of a GREAT Christmas present, that it was a solid investment so we also ended up purchasing a sofa. So, our quick trip for a dresser ended with two more items. Oh well, it happens. :-)

That's about it for this month. We are headed on a plane home to WI for Thanksgiving in a few hours. I cannot WAIT to go home!!! My family and friends are throwing me a shower on Saturday so I am thrilled to see all my friends and family and get to spend time with them. I will post next week with an update from that and pictures.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I am thankful that I have a wonderful family, caring friends and a healthy baby to be born in less than 4 months.
