Train On!

Today I begin my training for the Trek Women's Series Triathlon. For those that do not know what this is, it is a sprint triathlon, sponsored by Trek and it is open only to women. It is very similar to the concept of the Danskin Triathlon that has been in place for 20 years. Trek must have seen what a great idea this was and jumped on board.

The triathlon is May 17th in Austin, TX. It is a 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and finishes with a 5K. Now all of these things separate don't seem too daunting but when you have to do them all in a row, well it is a little overwhelming. Today is the start to my training. I am using Hal Higdon's training program. I have put together two separate 8 week programs to create one long 16 week training program. The first 8 weeks is basically for very beginner triathloners. It has me doing one discipline a day to build up endurance and strength on each one. The second 8 weeks is a advanced beginner session which begins to combine multiple disciplines to get me use to transitioning and building up endurance to do them all at once.

I am very nervous for this. I signed up a few years ago to do the "Danskin" but had to back out due to work obligations, so I am very excited to train and compete this year. I have no goals for myself as of yet except to finish, but once I get through the first training session I will decide if I want to set time goals.

Wish me luck!
