We have arrived!!
After 16 hours and 6 states we have arrived in Texas. We left Milwaukee on Saturday morning and drove 9 hours to Kansas City to stay with Ronnie (Derek's best man) and his wife Jen. It was so nice to see them and break up the driving over a few days. Reeses was a trooper for the car ride, riding with me. She slept almost the entire 9 hours. Needless to say she had a lot of pent up energy once we got to KC. Unfortunately, Marley (Ronnie and Jen's Bichon) was NOT wanting to play with our overly hyped up dog. We ordered in Chinese food and watched football Saturday, really too tired to do much else.
On Sunday, we were pretty lazy even though the dogs had us up pretty early in the morning. Marley warmed up to Reeses, a little at least so they could at least co-exist in the same room. It had snowed the night before and was pretty cold. But, Ronnie really wanted to take us to Three Dogs Bakery. So, we bundled up, got the dogs in the car and headed for the Plaza. Three Dogs Bakery was awesome. It is a bakery for dogs, all different kinds of treats and flavors, baked right there for the pups in the store like a real bakery. Some of it looked good enough for people to eat! We loaded up on treats for Reeses and then braved the cold for a walk around the Plaza. The wind was a little too much so we headed back to Ronnie and Jen's to spend the afternoon and evening being lazy bums. We had to of course, stop for some famous KC BBQ on the way home for lunch. Yum!
Monday morning we woke up at 4:30am to get ready to get back on the road. We hit the road about 5:15am to be in Texas with plenty of time before our 3pm closing on our house. With the snow from the day before and the frigid temps the roads heading out of Kansas were not fun to be on. We were slipping around on the bridges and overpasses. I had a death grip on the wheel for many hours after. (Did I mention that I hate to drive, especially any trip over 3 hours?). With the weather delays and stopping for food and breaks we got into Dallas around 2:30pm. We ended up having our closing pushed back until Tuesday so we stopped in the building to say hello to co-workers and let our bosses know we were in town. I was exhausted and VERY crabby so we went to the O'Keefe's house (our friends Shannon and Bryan who are awesome and letting us stay with them till our house is ready) and we crashed. We ordered out for dinner, watched some TV and I went to bed very early.
Yesterday (Tuesday), we finally closed on our house! It feels great to know we are homeless no longer. Unfortunately, our moving truck doesn't arrive till Friday so we are staying a few days with Shannon and Bryan. We went last night to purchase some necessities (refrigerator, washer and dryer) and not so much a necessity (wall mount TV for the game room).
And now it is Wednesday, my third day in Texas. I can't say I love it yet, or even feel at home here. But, I can't complain about the 60 degree temps and tons of sunshine (no SAD disorder this winter!). I miss home a lot, my friends and especially my family. But, I am glad to have friends here and hopefully once we are settled in our new home I will feel more at place.
